Is Oatmeal Good for Monkeys?

Oatmeal is often touted as a food that can work wonders—it can boost your fiber intake, lower cholesterol and possibly help prevent diabetes. So should everyone include oatmeal as a part of their normal diet? That depends not only on your Hauser Diet Type but also on the oatmeal type.

Monkeys need a diet high in complex carbohydrates. Organic, homemade oatmeal is a great meal for a Monkey, but when the typical toppings of brown sugar, honey and dried fruit start getting added in, the sugar content can easily escalate.

The perfect bowl of oatmeal for a monkey would include a few pieces of dried fruit and some cinnamon for flavor. Or you could think outside of the box and add some veggies such as finely chopped zucchini, broccoli and tomatoes with a pinch or salt and a little butter – yum!

And don’t neglect the homemade organic oatmeal – adding hot water to a packet of flavored oatmeal is not a good source of nutrition. The sugar and additives in these packets counteract all of the health benefits that pure oatmeal has to offer. So when adding this superfood to your diet, be sure to choose the right balance for your Hauser Diet Type with organic oatmeal that is free of additives.

A Husband and wife, in their 50’s and the Hauser Monkey Diet

Recently we had some feedback from a husband and wife couple, who took our quiz and began to take the concepts of the Hauser Diet and apply them. They typed-out to be the Monkey Diet Type.

Like most married couples, their diet became pretty redundant over time. Upon taking the quiz, and with the drive to lose some weight, the wife knew it was time to take this new Monkey Diet seriously. She realized that their protein intake was really high compared to the true Monkey Diet, as described in The Hauser Diet book. She also realized that they were eating a lot of “filler” carbs, and not necessarily getting the most out of her meals. Monkeys are supposed to be eating a higher carbohydrate diet- but “smart” carbs. This means plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit, along with whole grains and high-fiber carbohydrates (such as legumes).

Many people feel they are following the Monkey Diet just by eating these filler carbs, like white bread/pasta and rice. This is not the case. If you are struggling on a low-fat diet, vegetarian diet, please take an inventory of your daily fresh food intake! This couple added in lots and lots of fresh vegetables, salads, and fruit to their daily meals, and dropped the protein intake. She felt that she had already been watching the fat intake, so she kept that the same.

They understood the diet, but what about the results? Excellent! Walking into the office looking absolutely fabulous, they had a radiant energy and talked about how pleased they were. And who wouldn’t want to hear how good they look?! The wife had lost 6 pounds in a month, and the husband lost 11. They powered out of the typical meal ruts we can find ourselves in- serving the same ol’ food, whether or not it makes us feel good. We hope their story can inspire you to do the same!
