Managing Cholesterol On The Bear Diet

THE BEAR & CHOLESTEROL

As a Bear you’re diet is supposed to be balanced between carbohydrate, fat, and protein. The percentages of each of these macronutrients are meant to give you the most out of your nutrition. This includes hunger satisfaction, energy, ideal weight, and overall health. If you eat the recommended amounts of foods your risk of having to deal with the onset of new health concerns should decrease, cholesterol included. The diet you were assigned was not random, there is a health related reason for it. Remember that we did actual blood tests to see what kind of foods your body works best on. The tests we look at, blood pH and Glucose Tolerance Test, tell us the foods that your body can process the best. Having a little fat in your diet is good for you and necessary.

On your Hauser Diet Bear sheet you’ll see foods such as eggs, bacon, and butter listed. Some patients, especially those that have a preexisting heart condition, jump on those foods immediately stating that they can’t have any of those foods due to their fat and cholesterol content. Based on your blood work though, this is not completely true. We aren’t recommending that you eat huge quantities of these foods each day, or even that you must include them in your daily diet. The advice we give is that you are allowed to include those foods for variety, and in moderation. Because of your Diet Typing results, having too much fat and cholesterol in your diet would not be the best thing for you, however it does not have to be eliminated. 5 strips of bacon and 3 eggs is not the best breakfast for a Bear, but certainly you could have an egg with a piece of bacon, with a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter. The next day, maybe breakfast items would be a bowl of high-fiber cereal with chicken sausage.

Something that very few people seem to realize is that the actual percentage of total blood cholesterol that comes from food is small. As long as you are focused on getting a good amount of healthy fats, protein, vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and fiber you should be fine. You always have the option of doing a pre and post cholesterol test. Know your cholesterol levels, then follow your Bear Diet for a good month or two while including a couple eggs, a little butter and bacon here and there! At that point retest your cholesterol to see what this type of diet has done to your cholesterol!

If you came to us as a vegetarian, I know it’s hard to grasp the concept of changing your diet and eating animal products. However, you need to think about why you came to Caring Medical in the first place. Most likely you came to us to get healthy or optimize your health. When we put you on the Bear Diet, we had those goals in mind. You just need to think of it as a positive change for your wellbeing and long term health.

You may still be a little skeptical of adding certain foods into your diet, and if so, then we just need to find ones that work for your Diet Type and piece of mind. It doesn’t mean you can’t follow the Bear Diet. Stick to leaner cuts of meat for your protein sources, like poultry, and healthy fats such as natural peanut butter if it makes you feel more comfortable. The Bear Diet does not require beef or butter to be part of your daily eating plan, so do what puts you at ease.
