Success Story: Not Everyone Benefits from a Vegetarian Diet
With so much information out there about what you should eat, what you shouldn’t eat, and how much to eat we know it’s hard to believe one suggestion over another. We think the best way to see what works is to hear real stories of how an eating plan worked for a normal everyday person. Here is a recent example of how Diet Typing worked to change a person around.
A patient in her early 50’s and was here for multiple issues. She was having body pain, was very fatigued (needing a nap everyday), had a great amount of gas, and was concerned about her cholesterol. Her diet at the time was mostly vegetarian, most like the Monkey Diet, and she had been eating this way for many years. Well, she was in for a shock because she typed out to be an Otter! As you know, the Otter Diet is very high in protein and fat.
This was on the opposite side of the diet spectrum than she was eating now. Of course, this concept puzzled her because she, like all of us, has been bombarded with good hype on fruit and other carbs, and bad hype on fat and meat. Her test results were screaming out that her diet needed to change if her health was going to improve!
We talked about everything from cholesterol and heart disease to weight gain and being sluggish. She just couldn’t believe that this diet is what would turn her health around. What did she have to lose though? She was already a mess! She said that she would give the Otter Diet a try. We had a chance to talk with her a couple weeks after our consult, for a follow up and this is what she had to say:
“I feel really good. I’m not having near the amount of gas and bloatedness I was having. Even though I can’t test my own body fat, I’ve notice my arms aren’t as flabby and I used to have really flabby arms. Everyday I notice something new that’s changing. If you would have asked me a couple days into the diet how it was, I would have said horrible because it was such a big change, but it’s a different story now.â€
We believe even her naps are now few and far between! This is a great example of how we may not always know what is best for our body. Following a specific diet because of what we hear about it can actually make our health take a turn for the worse. Instead of believing everything you hear, why not believe what you see.
