Success Story: Diet, Fatigue, & Fibromyalgia
We recently had a young woman come see up for fatigue and fibromyalgia. At the young age of 27 she was having trouble getting through her day. Her diet consisted mainly of convenience foods – crackers and cookies you would find at a drug store. Not only was she eating and feeling unhealthy, her body outwardly appeared unhealthy. She was 17 pounds underweight and did not know how to reach a healthy weight. Besides the fatigue she was experiencing, she also felt weak and unmotivated to do much.
Convenience food, fast food, and microwaves do not support anyone’s body. Do you realize that everything that goes on inside your body is affected by what you eat? Your energy levels, your metabolism, your hormones, your sleep cycle, your stress management, etc., are ALL affected by what you decide to put into your mouth at mealtime. Chemicals, preservatives, and modified food can wreak havoc inside your body. Eating the wrong types of food and the wrong type of diet can cause premature aging, disease, fatigue, unhealthy weight, disrupted sleep, stress and anxiety, the list goes on.
After Diet Typing it was revealed that she would need to increase her protein and start the Otter Diet. She made some decent changes and noticed a huge change in her energy levels and pain levels. However she was still underweight and her diet didn’t exactly match up with the Otter Diet. She said that she didn’t have enough time to cook and wasn’t sure how she could fit it in. After finding out her food allergies, she had to give up some of her favorite foods. Her diet began to slip as did her weight – she lost 7 more pounds and was now severely underweight.
She had to work with our nutritionist to discover meal ideas that would work for her. She also had to realize that cooking can be a part of her lifestyle, it had to be, her health was dependent on it. She, like some other people we see, had to be reminded that health comes first. If someone needs to wake up ten minutes earlier each morning to cook breakfast, then they need to do just that.
