You Gotta Have Heart!

heartHello friends,

Who knew it was World Heart Day on September 29th? In this week’s news, we wanted to focus on the heart. We have included heart-healthy recipes, tips, and information on how to strengthen your heart. But another aspect of the heart we take from a classic line from one of America’s classic musicals, You Gotta Have Heart from Damn Yankees.

This song was composed by a Richard Adler who is a person who faced many challenges, one of which was his battle with cancer. This song talks about overcoming troubles, having heart.

We talk about having heart a lot in the sports arena. Athletes are said to have heart, they gave it their all in their competition. In the Bible, David slew Goliath with a slingshot with what is termed a herculean heart.

We have amazing patients at Caring Medical who exemplify this heart! Some have been in and continue to be in a battle for their very lives. And we want to encourage you to keep on keeping on – with heart!

Here’s the song –

When the odds are sayin’

You’ll never win,

That’s when the grin should start.

You’ve gotta have hope

Mustn’t sit around and mope.

Nothin’s half as bad as it may appear

Wait’ll next year and hope.

When your luck is battin’ zero,

Get your chin up off the floor.

Mister you can be a hero,

You can open any door.

There’s nothin’ to it but to do it.

 You got to have heart,

Miles n’ miles n’ miles of heart.

Oh, it’s fine to be a genius of course,

But keep that old horse before the cart.

First, you gotta have heart!

Our hearts are associated with love, compassion, selflessness, as well as drive, fortitude, and strength. We connect with something beyond ourselves. Heart really comes from love. A few weeks ago our pastor at First Assembly in Fort Myers, FL spoke about agape love, heart love. Everyone wants to love and be loved. Agape love is a supernatural love. It is not of this world. It is not fake. Because God is agape – it is His true essence, the life force and nature of God. We cannot separate Him from His agape love for us.

One of our favorite Bible verses is 1 Corinthians 13 and we were privileged to read it at the recent wedding of our nephew Alex and his lovely wife Mikayla. Love is the end all, it is everything. Agape love is selfless. In a world that is very self-centered, this may seem counter-cultural, but this agape love is life-giving and available to all because God loves all of us.

When you focus on heart-love, agape-love, you see people differently. It changes how you feel about people – even those people who may irritate you. No wound cannot be healed with agape love. Change the way you think. Give the gift of true heart-love to those around you. It will do YOUR body good.
