What Do You Think?

What Do You Think?“Do your own thinking about what you are thinking about.” Joyce Meyer

The mind is a powerful thing. It can build us up … and … tear us down.

Dr. Hauser often talks to patients about taking control of their minds. He himself is a person who had/has a battle with “stinking thinking.” Others may call this a melancholy personality.

Sometimes people’s minds start going negative as soon as they wake up in the morning. Your mood starts circling the drain and you end up feeling angry – seemingly for no reason.

You look in the mirror and see someone who is fat, ugly, stupid, weak, depressed, old, or whatever negative thoughts may come to mind…

We all battle this at different times in our lives, especially if we are in the battle FOR our lives trying to recover from an injury, pain, or illness that has taken its toll on our mental and physical bodies.

The good news is that God loves us, and we are fearfully and wonderfully made – Psalm 139:1 and He has great plans for our lives. However, we can sometimes forget this.

We may think things like “nobody cares about me” … “nothing good is going to happen in my life so I better keep my expectations low” … “I am weak and will never recover fully from this injury” … “I am damaged goods so nobody will want to be my friend” …

These are lies. They are not true. We have a choice to reject this wrong thinking.

So, what to do?

Realize you are in a battle.

Think about what you are thinking. You can choose your thoughts and shut down ones you no longer want in your brain.

Look yourself in the mirror and speak positive words. Dr. Hauser regularly assigns this task to our patients. It may seem weird at first, but when you speak these things out loud, you can change your stinking thinking!

“I am able to overcome this pain.”

“I am strong.”

“I am loved.”

“I am beautiful.”

“I am kind.”

“I am able to contribute.”

If you want to explore your faith more, reading the Bible or other inspirational readings can help change your mindset as well. Get rid of negative input and fill yourself with positive, encouraging input.

You will be amazed at what a difference it makes, not only in how you think, but how you feel and what you can accomplish!

New mindset. New results!
