Treat the Underlying Cause: Ask, Why?

back painHello friends!

Sometimes when speaking with patients, family, friends, or even strangers, when asked what treatment was recommended and then following up with “why?” – we end up with a blank stare. The answer is basically, “because the doctor said so.”

At Caring Medical, we want to treat the underlying cause of our patients’ painful conditions. We do not want to put a band-aid on the problem until the condition “gets so bad that surgery is required.” Unfortunately, that is more the traditional medicine model.

Prescriptions for anti-inflammatory medications, then stronger prescriptions, then narcotics, then steroid shots, then eventual surgery – this is not how life has to be.

Do you have an anti-inflammatory medicine deficiency?

Do you have a steroid deficiency?

The answer most likely is “no!”

In our 30 years of practice in the field of regenerative medicine, we are confident that the underlying cause of most chronic pain is ligament laxity that leads to joint instability which can produce a variety of other symptoms in addition to pain and weakness. Accompanying symptoms may be related to muscle imbalances, nerve pains, referred pains, and even organ dysfunction (i.e., cardiac, GI, respiratory, neurologic.)

Treat the underlying cause, not just the symptoms.

Is it weird that your symptom of ringing in the ears may be due to neck instability?

Or that your meniscus tear is due to laxity (weakness) in the supporting knee ligaments and tendons?

Or that your GI discomfort could be due to a malfunctioning vagus nerve that is being compressed by hypermobile neck structures?

Yes, it MAY seem weird.

But treating the cause can eliminate the symptoms. The process will continue if you do nothing about it.

As you are keenly aware, Prolotherapy stimulates the body to repair those painful, injured, weakened areas. Injections are given to the bone-ligament junctions to tighten them, just like you would tighten the screws on a loose hinge in a cabinet door, versus just replacing the cabinet door, right?

Once those healing injections are given to you, then it’s up to you to optimize healing in your body by keeping it moving every day, eliminating wrong movements that may have lad to the issue such as poor posture, bad computer set-up, facedown lifestyle related to your cell phone, improper shoes, or “couch-potato syndrome!” The body heals by motion – proper motion. If you need help with how to move your body, we can get you moving in the right direction (pun intended!) 😊

And finally, feed your body what it needs to heal – real food, including appropriate amounts of protein and fresh vegetables, and eliminating what hampers healing – fast “food,” junk “food,” excessive sugar, processed food, and soda. Be mindful of getting outside in nature, controlling input to things/people that are positive, strengthening your faith, and having real relationships. Remove toxicities – foods, people, TV shows, games, music – if it is not strengthening you, why take part?

So, as you move through your healing journeys, we encourage you to ask yourselves, “why?”

If you are facing a new pain or weakness and would like us to help you, please do not hesitate to contact us. Or if you need to get back on track, we are here for you!

Happy healing!
