How to Choose Fruits & Vegetables

All of the Hauser Diets require consumption of vegetables, but watch your portions! When choosing what to purchase at the farmers’ markets, consider these facts:

1. Deeply colored vegetables and fruits contain phytochemicals which provide you with a good source of antioxidants, along with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

2. BLUE/PURPLE fruits and vegetables may help lower risk for some cancers, improve urinary tract health, aid in memory, and help improve healthy aging. Choose Foods such as: Purple cabbage, Eggplant, Purple endive, Blackberries, Blueberries, Purple grapes, Plums, and Raisins.

3. Add GREEN to your diet to help maintain a lower cancer risk, support vision health, and aid with keeping your bones and teeth strong. Green vegetables contain varying amounts of potent phytochemicals such as lutein and indoles, which researchers have shown to provide potential antioxidant and health-promoting benefits. Go green every day with vegetables like these: Avocados, Artichokes, Arugula, Asparagus, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Green beans, Green cabbage, Cucumbers, Leafy greens, Green pepper, Spinach, and Zucchini.

In summary: The Hauser Diet promotes consumption of fresh, organic foods – fruits and vegetables not withstanding. Watch out for over-consumption of fruits.
